Organizational Development

An organization is a group of people working together for a common mission. As the organization succeeds, more people (employees, customers, stakeholders) are involved and the organization grows more complex. Culture, structure, and systems evolve to deal with these growing complexities. Leaders at all levels develop. So do the core competencies of employees and managers needed to sustain the organization’s success.

And, as the organization grows, it is important that its many "systems" stay in alignment. Often small problem symptoms can go untreated. Over time larger issues can develop and distract employees from achieving the mission. Important external forces can go undetected and begin to push the organization into decline.

Organizational development is the process by which organizations stay healthy and thrive. Like we humans, organizations need strong genes (principles and ethics), purpose (mission), core competencies (talents, skills, knowledge), good diet and exercise (adaptive structure and systems), and periodic health screenings to detect problems early and treat them (strategic planning and assessments). Of course, employees are the "brain" and "nervous system" of the organization and determine its success.

We help organizations stay healthy and thrive by:
  1. Providing organizational assessments
  2. Designing and facilitating high-impact meetings to help groups define problems and their solution strategies
  3. Assuring the mission, vision, and core values are clear and shared effectively with all employees (Strategic Planning)
  4. Customizing leadership development programs
  5. Helping organizations align structure/systems with their "customer needs"
  6. Enhancing or developing teams
  7. Building all employees’ capacity to handle change and conflict
  8. Training supervisors and managers on how to develop their people
  9. Helping the organization’s senior management develop a management succession plan
  10. Assisting family-owned organizations with issues related to participation, control, and succession

Organizational Assessment
Leddy Group can work with you to evaluate or assess your organization and help you put together an Organizational Development Plan. This plan would address selected areas of organizational success such as: culture, employee engagement, leadership and human capacity, customer service delivery, and cash flow and financial strength. Also, we can help you execute this plan, if your organization lacks adequate capacity.

Business Meeting Design, Facilitation, and Follow-Up
A variety of business meetings take place in an organization. The Leddy Group can design and facilitate different types of business meetings for you that would assist in goal alignment and productivity. Some of these sessions might be related to the strategic planning process already described, others to the day-to-day running of the business that require interim reviews for the entire company or a division to assess what is working well, what needs to be improved, and what the next steps should be. Where project teams are selected to resolve critical issues, the Leddy Group can design a process that includes articulation of the business issue, definition of the project outcomes, expectations of the different stakeholders, and creation of the project plan. Having an external resource design and facilitate selected meetings allows meeting participants to focus on the topic or business issue and to address these issues with creativity. Participants can also include customers. Part of our services would include follow-up required to ensure successful implementation.

Leadership Development
Leddy Group can customize a leadership development program to fit your Organizational Development Plan. A program might last six to nine months and would actively engage selected people within the organization that are interested in expanding their own leadership capacity. We can also provide follow-up coaching for participants with professional development plans.

Aligning Structure/Systems with Customer Needs
Through its organizational assessment process Leddy Group can help an organization determine if its current structure and processes are congruent with meeting its customer’s needs. Often structures and systems evolve to deal with "internal" needs or weaknesses that may not impact customers. We can help with both the assessment and design of congruent structures and processes.

Team Development
Collaboration is key to an organization's success. The Leddy Group can assess how teams are doing and recommend solutions to increase team effectiveness. Some of these solutions might include role clarification among members of a team and team building to improve interpersonal and inter-group relations which can cover such topics as stages of group development, conflict resolution, the "MBTI", managing change, team guidelines, and other topics.

Change and Conflict Management
Every organization needs to be able to adapt to change. Forces for change usually originate outside the organization. Today, the ability to adapt to change needs to be part of an organization’s leadership and human capacity. Leddy Group can help you build an adaptive organization that can thrive on change. In addition, we can assist organizations to build a conflict management capacity by increasing collaboration skills and reducing unnecessary conflict.

Building a People Development Capacity
Access to development is a strong contributor to why individuals join organizations and why they stay. The Leddy Group can assist you in introducing an employee development strategy for your organization that considers different areas of development as well as developmental options. We can train your managers on how to be able to do this on an ongoing basis.

Management Succession Planning
All organizations experience "succession." Most take succession as it comes. Key employees, managers, CEOs, directors, owners - they all come and go. Successful organizations have plans in place to deal with these transitional successions. Succession planning can help organizations determine whether they have the internal capacity to deal with filling key slots or whether external searches will be required. Leddy Group can help with the planning and search itself.

Family-owned Business Coaching
Family businesses have their own unique circumstances. Each one is different. Leddy Group is a well-managed, family-owned business that understands the different issues that arise: succession planning, family-member responsibility, intra-family communications, and effectively bringing in "outsiders." Also, we understand the sensitivity and confidentially that goes with this type of consultation.
